CIARA: Intelligent Digital Usage Monitoring and Evaluation for Cyberaddiction Prevention

Excessive use of smartphones and social media has become a growing challenge for well-being, mental health, and academic performance. This workshop introduces CIARA (Cyberaddiction Intervention and Recovery Assistance), a mobile application developed at the University of Cuenca to monitor smartphone usage, identify digital behavior patterns, and provide personalized recommendations for healthier technology habits. Through a hands-on experience, participants will install and use the application, explore its features, and contribute to evaluating its usability and user experience. The workshop combines research, innovation, and active participation, offering attendees the opportunity to better understand cyberaddiction while exploring an evidence-based technological solution designed to promote digital well-being and support healthier interactions with technology.

Building the Future with AI: From Foundations to Multi-Agent Systems

Generative Artificial Intelligence is reshaping the way organizations innovate and solve complex problems. This hands-on workshop guides participants from the fundamentals of Large Language Models (LLMs) to the design and implementation of autonomous agents and multi-agent systems. Through live demonstrations and guided exercises, attendees will learn how to integrate knowledge sources, external tools, and collaborative AI architectures to address real-world challenges across education, healthcare, industry, and the public sector. By the end of the session, participants will have built their own AI agent and gained the practical skills needed to develop intelligent applications and adapt multi-agent technologies to research, innovation, and professional projects. 

Strengthening Institutional Cyber Resilience: Building the Information Security Baseline for ISMS/EGSI

This workshop presents a practical methodology for strengthening institutional cyber resilience by building an information security baseline. Based on the GÉANT Security Baseline, the Security Bootcamp developed with RedCLARA, and the implementation of EGSI v3 in Ecuador, participants will learn how to identify security gaps, prioritize improvement actions, and develop a roadmap for implementing an Information Security Management System (ISMS). Through collaborative exercises and diagnostic tools, attendees will transform assessment results into actionable plans tailored to their institutions’ risks, capabilities, and strategic objectives. The workshop provides practical templates and methodologies to support measurable, sustainable, and continuous improvement in information security governance across academic institutions and public organizations.

Interactive Sandbox for Visual SQL Injection Training and Automated Remediation

SQL injection remains one of the most critical security vulnerabilities affecting web applications. This hands-on workshop introduces an interactive sandbox that helps participants understand and mitigate SQL injection through a three-stage workflow: scan, visualize, and remediate. Using a Docker-based reproducible environment, attendees will identify vulnerabilities in a deliberately insecure application, explore how malicious payloads manipulate SQL queries, and apply automated remediation techniques using prepared statements and ModSecurity (WAF) rules. Following a Purple Teaming approach, the workshop combines offensive and defensive security perspectives to strengthen participants’ skills in secure software development, cybersecurity, and web application protection through an engaging, practice-oriented learning experience.

This workshop showcases projects developed by students from the Master’s Programme in Applied Artificial Intelligence at UTPL, addressing real-world challenges through artificial intelligence technologies. Through live demonstrations, participants will discover prototypes focused on smart tourism, computer vision for automated inspection, diabetes risk prediction, and learning analytics for student dropout prevention. The workshop fosters collaboration between academia, industry, and the productive sector by demonstrating how applied research can become innovative solutions with real societal and business impact. Attendees will have the opportunity to interact with the developers, explore the design and implementation of each prototype, and discuss practical applications and future collaboration opportunities in artificial intelligence and digital innovation.
